9 point examination protocol

Our Examination Protocol

  1. Update your medical history
  2. Ask you about any discomfort or concerns that you might have with your teeth
  3. Check your teeth for signs of decay
  4. Check your teeth for signs of wear, cracks or erosions
  5. Check your restorations (fillings, crowns, bridges, veneers) for any signs of defects or decay
  6. Check your jaw joints and examine the position and bite of your teeth
  7. Check your gums for any signs of gum disease or monitoring the progress of existing gum disease
  8. Point out areas where the cleanliness of your teeth and gums should be improved and offer solutions
  9. Carry out an oral cancer screening inside your mouth

We adhere strictly to the British Dental Association recommendations on Sterilisation and Infection Control

We will also take appropriate x-rays to check:

  • for the presence of tooth decay in areas which cannot be examined by visual inspection: in between teeth or under crowns/bridges.
  • the level of bone supporting the teeth to monitor the progress of existing gum disease.
  • the roots of teeth if we suspect there are problems
  • for missing or erupting teeth (including wisdom teeth)
  • if appropriate we will also use other visual aids such as a special INTRAORAL CAMERA that takes photographs of your teeth.

After the examination:

  • We will advise you of any conditions that needs to be corrected in the short term so to achieve dental fitness.
  • We will advise you of any treatment that may be of benefit in the long term.
  • Treatment options and its related cost estimate will be provided for you.
  • Additional information regarding the treatment options (leaflets/video)will be available for your perusal
